Every employee benefits each year from a right to paid holiday from his employer, regardless of the nature of his employment contract.

Americans generally take two weeks off a year. In France, it’s different. The annual duration of paid holidays is five weeks (30 working days) for a full year of work performed. Collective or company agreements may provide for additional rights.

There are also other holidays, such as maternity, sabbatical, and parental holidays for education or illness.

When an employee wishes to be absent, companies ask for a Leave request form indicating the desired dates of absence and the nature of the absence. The request can also be made via the company’s intranet or software specialized in online holiday and absence management.

The employee must sign the application and return it to his employer for countersignature. Do not forget to keep a photocopy of the signed copy for your holiday in complete peace of mind :).
