The sea is a living, ever-changing environment, and it is necessary to be aware of its dangers while enjoying its charms.

Swimming into one of its natural inhabitants, jellyfish, can have very unpleasant consequences.

This creature, called the “SeaNettle” floats with the current and can appear on the coastline in any season, depending on climatic conditions.

Antibes Council is using all possible means to prevent the jellyfish from arriving, and should they appear, they are rapidly removed.

However, being stung by a jellyfish remains a possibility, and the following advice should be noted :

To avoid jellyfish stings:

  • Check on the lifeguard’s board at your chosen beach if jellyfish are present that day,
  • Never touch a jellyfish, even when dead, its tentacles sting.

In case of a sting:

  • Rinse with seawater without rubbing, do not rinse in freshwater,
  • Never rub the sting !!!,
  • If necessary, remove the jellyfish strands gently with tweezers,

For all other treatment and advice, the lifeguard posts are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at all surveyed beaches. Lifeguard posts fly different colored flags, which signal that they are open.
