Business days
The days selected as normally worked, Monday to Friday by default, excluding non-working public holidays.
French working days
“Jours ouvrables” are counted from Monday to Saturday, excluding non-working public holidays. Sunday is excluded.
Calendar days
Every included date counts, including weekends and public holidays.
These are the conventions used by this calculator. Adjust the interpretation to your organisation and applicable rules. It does not deduct bridge days, leave or exceptional closures and does not determine clear-day or procedural deadlines.

What is the difference between calendar, business and French working days?
Calendar days
Calendar days are every day shown on the calendar. Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays are included. A calendar year contains 365 days, or 366 days in a leap year.
Business days (jours ouvrés)
In this calculator, business days are the days actually worked by the business or public body. A Monday-to-Friday organization normally has five business days per week. A shop that closes on Monday and opens on Saturday may instead select Tuesday to Saturday.
French working days (jours ouvrables)
A jour ouvrable is a day on which work may legally be performed. The usual French convention counts six days per week, from Monday to Saturday. The weekly rest day, usually Sunday, and non-working public holidays are excluded.
The custom weekday selection affects the business-day total. The jours ouvrables total always follows the Monday-to-Saturday convention used by this calculator.
How to use the calculator

- Choose how public holidays are treated and enter any holidays that are normally worked.

Both boundary dates are included by default. You can exclude either one separately when the rule applying to your calculation requires it.
How French public holidays are handled
Public holidays are retrieved automatically from the official French public holiday API. Selecting a territory applies its calendar, including the additional holidays in Alsace-Moselle and holidays specific to certain overseas territories.
A French public holiday is not necessarily a non-working day in every organization. Apart from 1 May, a collective agreement, company agreement or employer decision may determine whether another statutory holiday is worked. The calculator excludes non-working public holidays by default and lets you enter exceptions that are worked.
When a public holiday falls on a Sunday or another day that is already outside the selected schedule, it is never deducted twice. The details may show several reasons for excluding the date without incorrectly changing the total.
Example calculation
For Monday 13 July through Sunday 19 July 2026 in mainland France, with both dates included and Bastille Day treated as a non-working holiday, the result is:
- 7 calendar days, because every date is counted;
- 5 French working days, because Sunday and 14 July are excluded;
- 4 business days for a Monday-to-Friday schedule, because Bastille Day and the weekend are excluded.
The result would change if 14 July were worked or if the organization followed a different weekly schedule.
Limits of the calculator
The calculator applies the selected settings to a civil date range. It does not account for bridge days, annual leave, exceptional closures, half-days, rotating schedules, or local practices not included in the official calendar.
Do not rely on the result alone to determine a court or filing deadline. Depending on the applicable rule, the first day may not count, expiry may be moved to the next eligible day, and the time limit may be stated in clear days. Check the governing text and seek professional advice where the deadline has legal consequences.
Frequently asked questions about calculating days in France
Is Saturday a French working day?
As a general rule, yes. Saturday is normally a jour ouvrable even when the business is closed. The calculator therefore counts Monday to Saturday, except for non-working public holidays.
Is Saturday a business day?
It depends on the organization. Saturday is not a business day for a Monday-to-Friday workplace, but it may be one for a shop operating from Tuesday to Saturday. You can customize the schedule.
Are the start and end dates included?
They are included by default. You can exclude either boundary separately to match the purpose of the calculation and any applicable rule.
Is every French public holiday excluded?
No. The calculator excludes a holiday when it is treated as a non-working day. You may include public holidays or enter individual holiday dates that your organization observes.
Is a public holiday on Sunday deducted twice?
No. Each date is excluded only once from a particular total. The details may show several applicable reasons without double-deducting.

Is Whit Monday a business day in France?
It depends on how the solidarity day and the applicable workplace rules are organized. If it is worked, enter the date as a public holiday normally worked.

No. It compares dates using the selected calendar rules. Court and procedural deadlines may have a special starting point, use clear days or be extended when they expire on certain dates. Check the applicable legal text.
